Rhode Island Pizza in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Our friends at Rhode Island Pizza Fans will enjoy this post.

Around the year 2014, I came across a pizzeria in Buenos Aires by the name of Rhode Island Pizza. It was located at Avenida Scalabrini Ortiz 330.

As a Rhode Islander, I found this to be quite intriguing and had to enter the establishment to investigate.

The reason for the name of this pizzeria as very simple. The staff explained to me thay the owner (who was not present) had traveled through the U.S. and Rhode Island simply happened to be his favorite place that he has visited during this travels.

The pizza wasn't anything particuarly special - just the standard pizza a la piedra which is common in Buenos Aires. If I remember correctly, they used gas fired dome brick oven.

A month after finding this place, I saw the business listed as for sale on MercadoLibre. At one point it was another pizzeria using the same oven (Ugi's, the infamous chain of cheap pizza in Buenos Aires) and at the time of this posting it appears to be an Armenian shawarma joint.

I wonder if they would have been more successful with trying to introduce a replica of Caserta or Catanzaro's pizza into the market. Spinach pies and/or hot weiners could have also been interesting.
